Record number of islanders to take part in Swimrun
More than 30 islanders will take part in this weekend's main ÖTILLÖ Swimrun events.
This year will see the usual World Championships Qualifying race and Sprint, as well as a new Experience race for those completely new to the sport or not ready to compete over bigger distances.
JÖTILLÖ, the junior version of the event organised by Wez Swain, will also return on Friday (June 7th).
Islanders registered for Sunday's main World Qualifying event, which has eight swims and covers a total distance of almost 40 km, are Wez Swain & Rob Carrier (team name Double Fish 'n' Chips); Adam O'Neill & Rowan Nightingale (aka Tresco Finest); Ruth Nicholls & Mark Worledge (Celtic Connection); James Stedeford & Alison Stedeford (Ready Steddies Go!!!); and David Mumford & Bryony Lishman (Salty Skin).
Saturday's Sprint Race, which has a total distance of 15.6km with eight swims, will feature teams Rachel Lewin & Maddy Hicks (Agnes girls); Vicki Hitchens & Karen Wright (Dead on Arrival); Anna McCann & Erica Swain (Shorty in a Shorty); Kirsty Graham & Anna Jenkins (St Mary's Mermaids); Jennie Woodcock & Dee Williams (Team Thrombosis); Jemma Pender & Jemma Bird (The Jemmas); Amelia Mills & Helena Plowman (The Super Scilly Sisters); Selena Baxter & Jack West (A Meva Scilly Idea); and Helen Pearce & Julian Pearce (Let’s go round again). Andrew King, Dave Hooper, Ian Sibley, Luke Humphries and Mark Worledge will all take part in the Sprint as solo competitors.
Two more Scilly teams will try out the new Experience race on Saturday - Lucy Humphries & Susie Taylor (Sloth) and Zoe Julian & Rosie Julian (She made me do it). The event has a course of 7.8km and three swims, of which the longest is 400 metres.
Meanwhile, all pupils at Five Islands Academy from Reception to Year 10 will be taking part in the Junior Swimrun.
