Sighthound owners on the islands have been invited to join the Great Global Greyhound Walk next weekend.
The annual dog-walking event 'brings together greyhounds, lurchers, other sighthounds and their owners to raise awareness of the breeds and show the public what wonderful pets they make'.
Childhood visitor Kathy Boyce from east London returned to the islands last year with her lurcher and met lots of Scillonian sighthounds.
She wrote at the time: “We’ve just returned home after spending the most magical 10 days in Scilly with our dog Max. I spent my childhood coming here and haven’t visited for 10 years, so have very fond memories…. We met some lovely local sighthounds, Brooke, Denzel and Oscar. Plus little Marley, (who stole my heart) with her gang of other dogs.”
Kathy, who runs a monthly sighthound walking group in London, has now urged islanders to take part in the Great Global Greyhound Walk next Sunday (June 9th).
She said: "Scilly can be added to the map with a walk. Please share with your sighthound friends and hopefully someone will register one.”
