Cornwall Council seeks foster carers on Scilly

Cornwall Council is looking for foster carers on the Isles of Scilly.

Fostering and Adoption Manager Chris Knight has been answering questions on Twitter as part of Foster Care fortnight, which highlights the shortage of foster carers across the UK.

Chris confirmed to This is Scilly News that the Council would love to hear from carers on the Isles of Scilly as well as on the mainland.

He said: "Having met our ONLY carer on the islands at the Foster Carer roadshow in Truro, I can assure [you] that we do! Please spread the word and get in touch."

Nearly 600 foster families are needed across the South West this year.

Chris also debunked some common fostering myths, including that it is not suitable for older people, single mothers or those already with children.

He said: "As long as you are over 21, have a spare room, have lived in Cornwall for 2 years or have a strong local support network you could be a foster carer and start the process right now."
