Councillor pledges own money to Scilly cancer group
The Isles of Scilly's cancer support group has said it is “incredibly grateful” after a Councillor pledged more than £100 of his own money towards its funding application.
Scilly C-Siders had applied for a grant of £600 from the Council's Community Fund to support the development of the group and its services.
At tonight's Annual Council meeting, Members agreed to give £485, the remaining money in the pot after it had granted funds to a previously-received application for bee hives.
Cllr Nelhams then volunteered to put the rest of the money in himself to make the amount up to £600.
Scilly C-Siders member Lou Simpson said: "We are incredibly grateful we were considered for the Council’s Community funding and slightly overwhelmed by the kindness of everyone, including Cllr Nelhams.
"This fund will really make a difference to the development of our group which we are so thankful for. We look forward to updating you on future progress via our social media Facebook page and website www.scillycsiders.org.”
Tresco Island recently invited Scilly C-Siders to enjoy a regular Spa Day on the island.
