First Creative Scilly festival starts today
The first ever Creative Scilly festival kicks off today.
The event is a "13-day celebration of music, theatre, spoken word, visual arts and island life, including pop up events and intrigues to delight and inspire".
The festival, organised by the Islands’ Partnership’s Creative Islands team with support from Arts Council England, will include an eclectic mix of events, workshops, courses, demonstrations, talks and performances featuring artists and creatives on the islands and beyond.
It starts with a Magical Fish Pottery Workshop with Alex Bagnall on Bryher at 11am, with a free Poetry Afternoon with Paul Dodgson to follow in St Mary's Library at 2pm.
This weekend's highlights include the popular Paint the Day competition on Tresco; tales of communication & rescue at sea, a Creative Writing workshop, Basic Watercolour Painting with Stephen Morris, Community Archaeology on St Martins with Dr. Katharine Sawyer and a folk concert with Harbottle and Jonas at the Town Hall.
The eighth annual One Act Play Festival will also take place on Sunday evening at the Church Hall on St. Mary's.
