Isles of Scilly is top for eco-friendly cars

The Isles of Scilly has the highest percentage of Ultra Low Emission Vehicles (ULEVs) of anywhere in the UK.

The islands topped a list of the top 20 eco-friendly local authorities by proportion of ULEVs.

Ultra Low Emission refers to vehicles that are either electric or produce 75g or less of carbon dioxide per kilometre travelled.

Scilly has 56 ULEVs out of a total of 892 registered vehicles (6%). The City of London came in second at 5%.

The figures were analysed by GoCompare based on 2018 data from the Department of Transport.

There are currently 495 registered cars on Scilly, as well as 69 motorcycles, 183 LGVs, 12 HGVs, 13 buses & coaches, 61 agricultural vehicles and 59 classified as 'other'.

The Council of the Isles of Scilly recently launched its GO-EV electric vehicle project, which will see the introduction of 10 ‘vehicle to grid’ electric vehicles to be used as part of an islands-wide car share scheme.
