Walk Scilly Festival starts tomorrow

The spring Walk Scilly festival kicks off tomorrow (Wednesday, April 3rd).

The event, which is the biggest so far, lasts ten days until Friday April 12th.

It features 40 guided walks and boat trips across nine islands, including "coast to coast hikes, top to toe trails, sensory strolls, farm walks, dark skies and foraging forays, plus Easter fun for the family, uninhabited adventures and wildlife explorations".

Highlights of the festival include dark skies walks featuring the brand new observatory on St. Martin’s, a special walk to Shipman Head on Bryher to hear about Scilly’s amazing Seabird Heritage, and "pacey" circumnavigation walks around St. Mary’s and St. Martin’s.

Other walks include Tresco Abbey Garden, an aural walk of St. Agnes, a Sunday morning children’s Easter walk, egg hunt and picnic, and an opportunity to head off on a night walk and turn bat detective.

The festival's evening programme features a welcome party at On the Quay, acoustic folk nights, a film night, presentations about Scilly’s archaeology and wildlife, and a musical concert in the candlelit Old Town Church. Meanwhile, the Isles of Scilly Museum is offering discounted entry to all Walk Scilly participants.

Carolyn Garman from the Islands' Partnership cautioned that wind may stop the Wildlife Sea Safari with the Isles of Scilly Wildlife Trust tomorrow so anyone booked on to it should check first with the TIC. Refunds will be given if it is cancelled.

Information and tickets are available at the Tourist Information Centre on 01720 620600. The full programme is available on the Visit Isles of Scilly website.
