The Islands’ Partnership has announced the launch the Isles of Scilly’s official Photography Competition for 2019 in conjunction with Tresco Island and Penzance Helicopters.
Now in its sixth year, the competition is open to all photographers living on, working on and visiting the islands.
The outright winner of this year’s competition, chosen by a public vote from a shortlisted selection of photos, will win a three-night break for two on a self-catering basis at one of Tresco Island’s luxury one bed Sea Garden Cottages. They will also receive a pair of return tickets to Tresco or St Mary’s with Penzance Helicopters, which is due to launch in spring 2020.

The annual Isles of Scilly Photography Competition continues to be a popular feature across the islands, attracting almost 5,000 entries over the past five years. The winning photos from the previous competitions - Luis Gomes’ “Captain’s Canine” (2018); Mark Smith’s “The Daily Commute” (2017); “Sky, Sea, Sand” by Carl Farran (2016), Megan Gallacher’s “Tropical Oasis” (2015) and “Puffin” by Steven Burbidge (2014) - have all become iconic marketing images for the Isles of Scilly alongside many of those that were shortlisted in their categories.
The eight categories for the 2019 Isles of Scilly Photography Competition are: An island Playground; Dark Skies, Scilly’s Creatives, Dine the Isles, Insta-Worthy, Everyday Magic, #myScilly, Wild Scilly, and Scilly Events.

IP Executive director David Jackson said: “With much to look forward to on the islands this year, including our new Creative Scilly festival next month and the opening this week of the brand new community observatory on St Martin’s, we are particularly keen for budding photographers to explore Scilly’s amazing heritage as well as its phenomenal natural beauty.
"We know too, that people visit the islands for many different reasons - whether escaping the hustle and bustle of modern-day living, competing in one of the sporting events or simply enjoying the wealth of local produce and dining out by the sea - which is why we’re also asking photographers to capture their own perfect island moments.
“The annual Isles of Scilly Photography Competition is always enthusiastically anticipated. We look forward to seeing lots of photos that really do encapsulate the essence of Scilly and to showcasing the talents of many of the photographers in Visit Isles of Scilly’s marketing materials including the Visit Isles of Scilly Guide, our website and various promotional materials."
He added: "We are delighted that Tresco Island and Penzance Helicopters are supporting this year’s competition and would like to thank them for their kind and generous winner’s prize.”
The competition closes on September 30th, after which a shortlist of the best entries will be selected by representatives of the IP and Tresco. These entries will then be put to a general public vote of their favourite images. The winner will be notified by email in November 2019.
