Newquay Airport starts flights to Heathrow

Islanders and visitors can now fly directly from Newquay to Heathrow.

Flights between Cornwall Airport Newquay and London Heathrow started on Sunday (March 31st).

Local dignitaries gathered at Newquay Airport to launch the new Flybe service, which replaces the previous Gatwick route.

Transport Secretary Chris Grayling, who was at the event, said: “The new route from Cornwall to our national hub airport offers significant opportunities for local businesses and people and will help boost tourism across the South West.

“It’s great to see this new route launched with help from the Government, as we work to build a better connected UK.”

The airline will operate four return journeys per day between Newquay and Heathrow's Terminal 2, which offers onward connections to more than 200 global destinations.

The route is part of the Public Service Obligation jointly funded by Cornwall Council and the Department for Transport, each of which will pay up to £1.7 million per year subsidy for the first four years.
