The Isles of Scilly's first Micropub is to open on St Mary's on Thursday.
The bar at what used to be Mr B's - previously the Cornerhouse - has undergone a revamp after the building was bought by the Jackman family.
It is now called Jack's Bar after the bar of the same name at Holgate's Hotel, which was demolished in 1977. The new version has a replica lifebelt sign and an original bar stool from the Hotel "for a bit of nostalgia".
Billy Jackman told This is Scilly News that the new venture came about almost by accident.
He said: "We bought the upstairs for the flats and for offices for our own business to operate from. We were going to gut the downstairs bit and rent it out as a unit but the more we came down here we realised it was just too nice. The glasses were still hanging up and we found this lovely fireplace as we started ripping things out so we thought why not run a pub?
"We decided to open a small, quiet bar a bit similar to the Dungeon Bar at Star Castle, somewhere nice and sociable. We want people to engage. You go to a bigger pub and you go into your groups of four or five and turn your back on each other but here the idea would be that the barman tries to keep everybody in the same conversation."
His dad Ray, who has lived on Scilly for 43 years, added: "A lot of people like me have gone off pubs and stopped going out. I don’t like television in pubs, I don’t like pool tables in pubs and I don’t like people eating in front of me in the bar. I like to just go out and have a drink and consequently I don’t go out anywhere near as much as I used to because there wasn’t anywhere like this to go to. We've been to a few Micropubs on the mainland so we thought we'd do something a bit different and open Scilly’s first Micropub."
There will be no food or loud music at Jack's Bar and although electronic gadgets are not banned, the granite walls mean there is a poor signal. There is also an enclosed beer garden for patrons to sit outside in the summer.
The new business is a real family affair for the Jackmans. Billy, girlfriend Miranda and brother Tom will be behind the bar, with Ray pitching in and sister Vikki responsible for stocktaking. Mum Lizbet said she is happy to clean the toilets ("Someone has to!").
There is an aptly named wine - Jackman's Landing - on the carefully selected wine list, as well as other alcoholic and non-alcoholic options.
Jack's Bar will be open between 7pm and 11pm on Thursday, Friday and Saturday this week and next, with further opening hours to be confirmed later.
