Secondary school site hoarding to be replaced

Replacement hoarding has been ordered for the old secondary school site on St Mary's.

Green fencing was originally installed in 2017 but its condition has deteriorated in recent months.

The Council's Lead Member for Place Steve Sims apologised for the situation and said that it is now being remedied.

He said: "I've had a number of face to face comments and there have been lots of posts on social media about the state of the fencing at the old secondary school site, none of them favourable. Firstly I have to agree it looks awful and should have been dealt with before the season started and certainly should be sorted out before it kicks in properly.

"It is being dealt with now. Replacement panels have been ordered. Freight disruption and the catch up haven't helped, but that's not an excuse, it should have been actioned earlier."

Cllr Sims added: "When the replacement panels go up, it's my understanding that there will be a community artwork project to decorate them which will be coordinated by the Island Partnership. I'll update further as the process unfurls.".
