Scilly to appear in More4 documentary
The Isles of Scilly is to feature in a new documentary series starting next month.
Devon & Cornwall filmed on the islands for several weeks last year.
The More4 show 'follows a host of fascinating characters who reveal what it is really like to live and work in the far South West corner of Britain, where rolling fields meet stunning coastlines'.
Islanders Paul Whittaker, Joe Pender, Charlotte Hicks, Meriel King and the COSMOS team all appear in the series, which was made by production company True North.
Scilly features in episodes 6, 7 and 10, broadcast on May 6th, 13th and 20th respectively.
The synopsis for the Scilly section of episode 6 reads: 'On the Isles of Scilly, florist and grower Paul Whittaker leaves terra firma with lifelong friend Joe Pender as they go in search of blue sharks in order to help global research. They plan to catch, electronically tag and return the sharks to the ocean so researchers can monitor the movements of these mysterious and threatened creatures.'
In episode 7, 'Charlotte Hicks has returned to her place of birth and is now the islands’ one and only midwife. Charlotte is now responsible for all new mums and their babies on the five inhabited islands and the first mum due to give birth is her childhood pal Meriel King.'
Episode 10 features the new observatory on St Martin's, which opens on April 1st - 'Val and Graham Thomas are enjoying a busy tourist season at their vineyard. But with the quiet winter months making a dent in profits, Val has come up with an ingenious plan to help the islanders attract visitors throughout the year. She and a group of amateur astronomers are fundraising to build an observatory and take advantage of the clear night skies regularly enjoyed on the St Martin's.'
The new series is a result of the success of previous More4 show The Yorkshire Dales and The Lakes.
Devon & Cornwall begins on More4 on Monday April 1st, airing weekly at 9pm.
