Church Street on St Mary's has re-opened after it was closed yesterday due to concerns about scaffolding at Springfield Court.

Isles of Scilly Police made the decision to close the road to vehicles after high winds overnight on Sunday (January 26th).

PC Lisa Woolley wrote on social media: "Please avoid walking past the building due to the risk of scaffolding coming lose."

Springfield Court, a row of late Victorian terraced houses by St Mary’s Hall Hotel, is currently having a new roof installed.

The Council's Acting Chief Executive Craig Dryden said builders would be on the islands today to make sure the scaffolding is secure.

Elsewhere, a tree came down near the entrance to Five Islands Academy, which has now been cleared along with several other fallen trees. There were also reports of a downed fence, lost roofing tiles and damage to the new solar garden at the airport.
