Academy PTFA 'in need of more helpers'
The Head of Five Islands Academy has warned that the PTFA is in danger of folding if more helpers cannot be found.
Jo Yeates said in a letter that the Parents, Teachers and Friends Association is in urgent need of more support.
She wrote: "I know that all three off-island bases have a 'Friends of..' group or similar, but the PTFA has been the backbone of Five Islands Academy for far longer than any one headteacher!"
Over the last 12 months, the group purchased or contributed towards a variety of items and events, including Christmas gifts, Book and PE bags, Lego, Year 6 leavers’ meal and a Geography field trip.
This term they are planning events such as Easter Egg Hunts, three Valentine’s Discos and possibly a Quiz Night for parents and/or families.
Jo continued: "However, we are struggling to recruit helpers, and without enough support we may have to simply pare down what we do to the bare minimum, or even stop completely.
'PLEASE could you join us? We need people who will do a shift at a disco, help set up/clear up events, run a stall at the Christmas and/or Summer fayre. We aren’t asking you to attend meetings, just join the Facebook group or contact one of us to say what you can do to help. Even half an hour at a disco would make a big difference, and mean that those events can actually take place. We are looking for parents to represent each year group, including secondary, and friends (grandparents or members of the community) are also welcome."
She added: "Please contact one of us if you can help, and spread the word amongst friends and family!"
The current PTFA Committee consists of Jo along with Chair/Secretary Louise Smethurst, Treasurer Tamar Smethurst, Sam Grossett, Jenny Hicks, Karen Kershaw, Meriel King, Jenny Stevens and Paula Wilkins.
