Council meeting to discuss 'momentous' decisions

Members will today gather for an Extraordinary Full Council meeting to discuss what has been described as "momentous decisions".

There is only one item on the agenda, a 10-page report titled 'Chief Executive'. It is a Part 3 item, meaning members of the public and press are excluded.

At the previous Full Council meeting on January 15th, seven Members called on Chairman Robert Francis and Vice-Chair Fran Grottick to resign.

A statement read out by Lead Member for Place Steve Sims accused Cllr Francis of "cleaving the Council in two" during his eight-month tenure.

The statement was supported by Cllrs Robert Dorrien-Smith, Ted Moulson, Avril Mumford, Dan Marcus, Mike Nelhams and Jonathan Smith.

Cllr Moulson said on January 15th that he would not be at today's meeting "where momentous decisions will be made" but wished to state his objection to the proposed course of action.

Cllr Mumford said she would email a statement to be read out at today's meeting as she would be out of the country. Cllr Sims will also be absent.

The meeting will take place at noon. A press release is expected to follow.
