Funding scheme launched for local businesses

The Council of the Isles of Scilly has secured funding from the Government to support local firms with a Business Energy Efficiency Scheme (BEES).

The funding helps small to medium sized enterprises with up to 60% grant support towards a capital spend on renewable energy and energy efficiency measures.

This may include installation of solar PV or thermal panels, LED lighting and insulation, air or ground source heat pumps and battery systems for energy storage.

BEES is a £390,596 investment pot, financed by the Government's Local Growth Fund and administered through the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Local Enterprise Partnership.

Grants are available for local businesses and start from a minimum of £1,667 project spend.

The Council is committed to supporting local businesses with their ambitions to reduce energy costs and carbon emissions as part of the Smart Islands programme.

Councillor Marian Berkeley, Lead Member for Smart Islands, said: “These are exciting opportunities for local businesses to achieve significant reductions in their energy bills and also reduce their carbon emissions. We welcome the award of funding for significant projects and look forward to supporting local businesses with these works.”

Applications for funding are now open and further information of the BEES (Business Energy Efficiency Scheme) is available on the Council's website or via email to bees@scilly.gov.uk.
