Art student seeks memories of Scilly potter
A student at the Glasgow School of Art is hoping islanders can help provide memories and anecdotes about Humfrey Wakefield.
Arvinda Gray is working on a project celebrating the life of the Scillonian potter and naturalist, who died in 2010.
She told This is Scilly: "Humfrey was a close family friend of ours. At the start of last year, I took up pottery, and find it an incredible shame that I cannot share my enthusiasm for it with the man who introduced me to the wheel.
"My family visit the Scillies every year and I have a lot of great memories attached to Newman House and the islands, but I was wondering if the people of the Scilly Isles could help me with my project.
"I would like to do an open call for any anecdotes, memories, or descriptions of Hum which people would be happy to share with me. This would hugely inform my project as well as being valuable to me on a personal level."
Arvinda is in her final year as an illustrator at Glasgow School of Art and works as a potter at the Glasgow Ceramics Studio. Check out her work at her website www.arvinda.co.uk.
