Students to sleep outside for homeless charity
Five Islands School pupils at Mundesley House will be spending a night under the stars to understand how it feels to be homeless.
The move is part of a Christmas fundraiser for homeless charity CRISIS.
The houseparents explained: "Last year during the Christmas period it was discussed how hard it must be without a home, especially at Christmas and during the cold winter nights. This year we have decided to act upon this and we are aiming to raise twenty lots of £28.18 (£563.60).
"The homeless charity CRISIS can make a Christmas shelter reservation for one person for £28.18. We are aiming to raise enough money for 20 of these reservations, the equivalent of one for each student at Mundesley.
"To raise this money and awareness of how hard it can be to be homeless, some of our students will be spending one night under the stars. The students will either be sleeping with just a cardboard box for shelter or in a tent. This event will happen during the last week of school, just before Christmas.
"If we can raise £563.60, then 20 homeless people can receive all of the below. Please help us to give 20 homeless people: · A warm welcome and good company · Three nutritious, hot meals daily, including a delicious Christmas dinner · A bed for the night, if needed · A chance to shower, freshen up and get clean clothes · A health check and treatment from a doctor, optician and dentist · Expert help with mental health and addiction problems · Advice on housing, employment and benefits · A way out of homelessness for good through Crisis’ year-round training, education and support."
