British Legion outlines Remembrance Sunday plans

November 9, 2018

The Isles of Scilly branch of the Royal British Legion has outlined plans for the commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War.

All organisations and attendees are asked to gather at the War Memorial at the Park on The Parade at 10.40am (10.45am at the latest) for the laying of select wreaths, the Roll of Honour and the national two-minute silence.

A joint Remembrance Service will be held at the Methodist Chapel, after which the organisations and congregation will parade to the War Memorial at Old Town Churchyard, where more wreaths will be laid and there will be a short service. Buses will be provided for those who are not fully mobile.

Richard Wiltshire from the British Legion said: "Everybody is welcome and we would hope that the weather will stay kind for us. It's amazing to think that on Sunday at 11am exactly to the day 100 years ago the war ended."

Richard and Ian McCarthy-Lunn attended the Great Pilgrimage 90 at Ypres on behalf of the Isles of Scilly British Legion in August.

The charity shop on St Mary's is giving all takings from its 10am-12 session on Saturday November 10th to the British Legion.
