Council 'to build 30 plus homes in next five years'
The Council of the Isles of Scilly plans to build a minimum of 30 affordable homes on St Mary's in the next five years.
The aim is part of the Council Homes Programme, which will be discussed at the meeting of Full Council on November 8th.
The programme is the initial phase of the Draft Local Plan's ambition to deliver up to 105 affordable homes by 2030.
Senior Manager for Strategic Development Nicola Stinson explains in her report that the Council will lead on the delivery of the first homes due to the "withdrawal of the intended delivery partner and difficulty in securing an alternative partner".
The Programme highlights three sites as suitable for development - Carn Thomas secondary school (owned by the Council), Land North of Ennor Farm (Duchy of Cornwall) and Land East of Ennor Close (Duchy and Council).
Her recommendations in the report include "that the negotiations commence on the land acquisition at Ennor Farm and Ennor Close at Old Town" and that
"officers be authorised to progress pre planning work, viability testing and community engagement on the Carn Thomas, Ennor Farm and Ennor Close sites."
There are currently 55 households (108 people) waiting on the housing register for a home and 23 households (49 people) on the transfer register wanting to move home.
