Mixed recycling to start across St Mary's next month

Mixed recycling collections will begin for all of St Mary's next month.

Collections for paper, card, metal and plastic will start for all St Mary's residents and businesses on December 3rd.

The news is revealed in Senior Infrastructure Officer Helen Pearce's report for November 8th's Full Council meeting.

For residents, a roll of mixed recycling sacks will be delivered door to door, with information on how to take part, in the coming weeks.

The Council’s commercial customers will have information posted to them shortly and will need to place orders for their commercial recycling sacks in the same way they do for their commercial waste sacks.

Mixed recycling sacks and waste sacks will be collected from households and businesses on the same day.

St Mary's residents can currently take their mixed recycling to Porthmellon Waste Management site.

Mixed recycling was introduced on the off-islands in September.

Helen's report also reveals that everyone's waste collection day is likely to change and that the Council will no longer be able to accept side-items. eg cardboard boxes. All items for collection will either need to be placed inside the correct sack(s) or taken to the Porthmellon Waste & Recycling Centre.
