Scilly given cash boost for winter social care
The Isles of Scilly is to receive a £12,662 boost from the Government for social care this winter.
The allocation is part of a £240 million fund announced by Secretary of State for Health and Social Care Matt Hancock earlier this month.
The money is aimed at reducing pressure on the NHS by getting patients home from hospital faster and freeing up beds across England.
The investment is designed to pay for home care packages to help patients leave hospital quicker; re-ablement packages, which support workers to help patients carry out everyday tasks and regain mobility and confidence; and home modifications, including new facilities for personal care such as shower adaptations.
Councils were allocated the funding based on the adult social care relative needs formula.
Cornwall Council will receive £2.8 million under the scheme, while the South West as a whole will get £24m.
The islands’ Council was previously awarded £8,000 from the Government as its share of £150m additional funding for social care in February.
