Park House rated Good in CQC inspection

The Council's Park House residential and community care service has been rated ‘Good’ in the latest report from Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspectors.

The Park House team underwent an unannounced inspection on September 3rd 2018, where the service was assessed against five categories: safe, effective, responsive, caring and well-led.

The CQC use four levels when rating services:

  • Outstanding: the service is performing exceptionally well.

  • Good: the service is performing well and meeting our expectations.

  • Requires improvement: the service isn't performing as well as it should and we have told the service how it must improve.

  • Inadequate: the service is performing badly and we've taken enforcement action against the provider of the service.

Park House achieved ‘Good’ in all five categories for the second time in a row. The last inspection took place in September 2016. This is the third consecutive inspection that has resulted in an overall rating of good.

Among the many encouraging observations in the report, inspectors noted the positive views of people they spoke to over the three-day inspection.

The report said: "The service was viewed by people we spoke with as very caring. We received positive comments about the service. For example we were told, 'I could not ask for better,' and '(My relative) has only good things to say about the care'. An external professional said, 'Park House [provides] a high level of care and support…in a warm and supportive environment,' and another said, 'Park House has undergone a significant change in the last year or so and now appears to me to be a vibrant, friendly and safe facility'."

Cllr Adrian Davis, the Council’s Lead Member for Adults, said: ‘It comes over to me how effective we can be on these islands when we get the right people in the right places. It’s so important that we show what sort of a community we are by looking after people towards the end of their lives. "This positive inspection report is testament to our professional and caring staff and to the priority we put on delivering high quality social care."
