The Isles of Scilly Steamship Group has confirmed the closure of Nike Engineering from today (October 5th).
The Group announced last month that it intended to close its islands-based engineering company and would be consulting with Nike’s four staff.
A spokesperson for the Steamship Group said: “These decisions are never easy, but it has been a challenge to recruit and retain skilled engineers on the islands in recent years, and we want to concentrate on our core business of passenger and freight services.
"We would like to thank Nike’s employees and customers for their support over the last seven years."
The Chairman of the islands' Council said last week that officers are working with stakeholders to find a way to keep the engineering facility on the islands.
The Steamship Group acquired Nike in 2011 as a way of offering automotive and marine engineering services on Scilly, including the maintenance of its own vessels.
