Last Tresco Triathlon won by island local
The last ever Tresco Triathlon yesterday was won by Dave Hooper from Tresco in a time of 1 hour, 13 minutes and 52 seconds.
Dave, who manages Tresco Boat Services, completed the cycling and running sections of the race in the fastest time. He was followed in second place by Graham Clegg, who was the first veteran to finish and has won the race several times in the past.
The first female finisher (and third overall) was Alison Stedeford (pictured below right) from St Mary's in 1 hour, 19 minutes and 15 seconds. Pharmacist Helen Pearce was the second female and first female vet with a time of 1:29:20.
'Team Splash & Dash', comprising Andrew King and Patrick May, was the first team past the post in 1 hour and 12 minutes, followed by 'J & J' - James Stedeford and Jeremy Pearson - in 1:13:56. The first female team to finish, in third overall, was the Turbo Unicorns - Georgia May, Natasha Garratt and Helena Plowman - in 1:22:45.
The Tresco Triathlon, which raised money for the British Red Cross, began at the Ruin Beach Cafe and consisted of a 0.36-mile swim, a 12-mile cycle (3 laps of the island) and a 3-mile run. Some 42 individuals and 10 teams took part.
