No legal challenges to Heliport decision

The deadline for legal objections to the new heliport in Penzance has now passed.

The Isles of Scilly Steamship Group previously said it had no plans to challenge Cornwall Council's decision to grant planning permission to the project on August 2nd.

There is a time limit of six weeks to apply for a judicial review or statutory challenge.

Robert Dorrien-Smith, the main backer of the new helicopter link, has now said he is looking forward to starting work on the project.

He said: "I am delighted to confirm the deadline for legal objections has now passed and, with no challenge lodged, our planning permission stands.

"We can now get on with the job of building the heliport, restoring Penzance as the helicopter gateway to the Isles of Scilly, and reinstating helicopter flights to St Mary's and Tresco.

"Our attention now turns to the construction phase of the project, beginning with the careful fulfilment of our planning conditions, after which we expect construction to take place during late 2018 and 2019."

"With sincere thanks for all your support to date."
