Bryher man sentenced for assaulting his mother
A man from the Isles of Scilly has appeared before magistrates accused of assaulting his mother.
Nathan Street from Bryher pleaded guilty to assault and criminal damage following the incident, which happened on August 18th.
During yesterday's (September 17th) hearing at Truro Magistrates' Court, prosecutor Anita Kennett said the 23-year-old had been drinking on Tresco, returning to Bryher at around 9pm. He then argued with his mum Angela when she attempted to stop him going to the family's B&B Soleil D'Or.
Kennett said that Nathan, of White House on Bryher, tried to push his mother over in the driveway before striking her "a number of times" to the face, reports Cornwall Live.
Isles of Scilly police travelled to Bryher using the medical launch and accompanied by paramedics, The Cornishman reported last week. The National Police Air Service helicopter then transported Nathan to Camborne Custody Unit, after which he was charged and bailed to appear before magistrates yesterday.
At the hearing, Nathan's solicitor Charles Holley said his client was "at a crossroads" in his life and was otherwise of good character. He added that Street was truly sorry, had reconciled with his mother and had been working with agencies such as Addaction since the incident occurred.
Street was given a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £85 court costs and £20 victim surcharge.
Cases from the Isles of Scilly are usually dealt with by a Magistrates' Court hearing on St Mary's. However, Nathan had been ordered not to remain on Scilly as part of his bail conditions. He can now return home.
There will be a Magistrates' Court hearing in the Wesleyan chapel on September 25th, where two cases will be heard.
