Gry Maritha out of service for two weeks next month
The Gry Maritha will undergo scheduled maintenance for two weeks in October.
The freight ship will be out of service from Saturday October 13th after her return from the islands. It is hoped that she will resume scheduled sailing on Monday October 29th.
During this time, the Isles of Scilly Steamship Group will only carry essential chilled and perishable goods onboard the Scillonian III.
The Group said: "There will be no freezer facilities onboard, so we ask that you stock up on frozen, chilled and large bulky items prior to the vessel going out of service. We will be offering chilled facilities for all sailings during this period (the SCIII will be sailing Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays).
"However due to limited chiller capacity, we ask that you order the necessity each week, spreading your deliveries evenly over the sailings to ensure that all customers have the opportunity to receive their goods.
"Please note: There will be no off-island delivery on Saturday 27th October due to tides, unless you are able to arrange and confirm pick up of said goods from St. Mary’s Quay.
"All bookings will need to be confirmed with quantity and weights. For goods exiting Penzance, shipping notes must be received no later than 15:00 the day before intended delivery via Email: firstname.lastname@example.org or Fax: 01736332917.
"If you were intending to ship large, bulky or heavy items during the maintenance period, we will do our best to assist you and we recommend that you call our offices as soon as possible, to discuss the best options for your needs.
"For those wishing to ship dangerous goods we advise that you stock up in the lead up to the Gry being out of service as the SCIII can only carry limited & minimal dangerous goods (petrol or gas).
"Please be advised that if your goods are not booked in, you may find them refused if we are unable to carry or store in our warehouse."
Meanwhile, inter-island freight boat Lyonesse Lady will also be out of action for scheduled maintenance between Tuesday October 16th and Sunday October 28th. She will resume scheduled sailing on Monday October 29th.
The Steamship Group statement continued: "During this time, the off-islands will be serviced by the Swift Lady and we will therefore only be able to carry essential perishables. There will be no Swift Lady service on Saturday 27th October due to tides, any items brought over on the SCIII will need to be picked up from St Mary’s Quay upon discharge of the SCIII.
"If you were intending to ship large or heavy goods during the maintenance period, we will do our best to assist you either prior to or after the Lyonesse Lady is out of service.
"Please note: There will be no Dangerous Goods delivered to off– islands during this period. We recommend that you stock up on these items leading to the vessels lay-up.
"We greatly appreciate your assistance in ensuring that this runs as smoothly as possible for all concerned, by using the important information above. Please call our offices as soon as possible to discuss the best options for your needs.
"Many thanks for your cooperation and please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused on this occasion."
