A new open-air pop-up cinema makes its debut on the Isles of Scilly tonight.
Island Cinema will show films on the big screen in locations across the archipelago.
The first offering is 2017 musical The Greatest Showman, which screens tonight at the Chaplaincy Gardens on St Mary's.
Owner Kirsty Graham explained: “Essentially, it is an inflatable movie screen, made in Germany. The screen size is 16ft wide by 9ft high, although the actual screen in total is about 17ft by 15ft high, so it's quite large when fully inflated!
“The sound quality and picture is amazing so I couldn't be more pleased with it. It's extremely portable and can travel anywhere so it's perfect for pop-up events, indoor or out.”
Kirsty plans to put together a schedule of summer screenings for 2019 and will take the screen to all the off-islands. She also intends to deliver indoor events both for children and adults throughout the winter months.
She added: "It can be pitched on grass, hard ground and even the beach so there is plenty of opportunity for outdoor cinema nights at many of the picturesque spots on the islands.
"The hope is to create atmospheric, fun events for people to enjoy with plenty of twinkling festoon lights and blankets for warmth and food and drink so people can enjoy a well-loved film outdoors under the stars.
"We will be putting on our own events but our equipment and services will also be available to hire for individuals or organisations that would like to put on their own event either privately or for a charity, community group or school event."
Island Cinema is supported by the Isles of Scilly Voucher Scheme.
The gate opens for The Greatest Showman at 7:15pm for an 8.30pm start. Tickets are £9.50 for adults and £6 for under 16s, available from the TIC. Keep up to date with upcoming events on Facebook.
Elsewhere, restaurant On The Quay has announced that it will hold movie nights over the winter, starting with Dirty Dancing on September 30th.
They said: "We will have popcorn galore, along with homemade nachos, delicious snacks and a selection of alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks to purchase. So sit back, relax, and enjoy the show."
A film club has also been meeting at the Old Town Inn on Monday nights for the last few years.
