Mixed recycling of paper, card, metal and plastic will start on the off-islands next week.
The Council has announced that from next Monday (September 10th), residents on St Agnes and Bryher will be able to take mixed recycling to their local waste management site. Those on St Martin’s will receive a weekly collection.
Household recycling sacks, and leaflets explaining how to take part, will be delivered to all residents in the next few days, while businesses requiring commercial recycling sacks will need to order their sacks via the Infrastructure Office.
Mixed recycling is expected to roll out to the whole of St Mary's in November.
Cllr Steve Sims, Lead Member for Place, said: "It's great news. It's been a long time coming, but the logistical hurdles have been huge. The Telegraph pilot scheme has an excellent take-up and I'm sure the off-islands will go just as well.
"Hopefully most of the teething problems will be ironed out before the full roll out in November. The infrastructure team, especially the guys at the coal face, have done a great job pulling this all together."
Members decided in June that Scilly residents will be given free clear recycling sacks for a year when dry mixed recycling is rolled out across the islands.
