Bryher Fete returns with live music and more
Bryher Fete is back this weekend, bringing live music and a plethora of stalls and attractions.
The fete - billed as 'Scilly's biggest live music event' - takes place at Green Bay from 1pm until 9pm on Sunday (August 19th).
The many food and drink options include a barbecue, bar (serving Prosecco, Westward Farm Gin, beer, Real ale etc), crepes, Mexican food, loaded jacket potatoes, cakes, cream tea, paella and more.
There will also be a raffle with prizes such as travel tickets, meals out on Scilly and on the mainland, and shopping vouchers.
Meanwhile, children can enjoy a bouncy castle, giant darts football, toy tombola, guessing games and face painting, as well as a variety of other stalls.
The fete is organised by the Bryher Community Association, with the live music from Scilly musicians arranged by David Dan and Andrew Hulands of local band The Pie Trio.
Issy Tibbs from the Community Association said: "David and Andrew do a brilliant job leasing with all the bands, putting up the stage etc. We have high hopes of making the fete even better every year with more live music, more food and entertainment. Last year we invested some of the money raised into sound equipment to improve the live music we provide. This also gives young musicians on Bryher and Scilly the chance to develop professionally."
Last year's inaugural fete and music festival raised a massive £11,700 for the community centre and other island projects.
Issy continued: "We also spent some of last year's money on the less glamorous Portaloos so that events on Bryher are more achievable. The phone box museum was also created out of fete money and has become a popular attraction on Bryher. This year we want to raise enough money to look at specific projects we can invest in on Bryher to improve the island for the community and also the people who visit it."
She went on to thank "all the kind businesses who are supporting the event, including the Isles of Scilly Steamship Company, Tresco Estate, Star Castle, Richard Pearce and all the boating providers who work so hard to get everyone here and back". She added that the fete has had support from mainland businesses with strong Scilly links such as The Coastguard Hotel and Frugi, who have donated prizes.
Issy also thanked bestselling children's author David Walliams, who signed some books for the raffle while on his recent holiday with his dog Bert.
St Mary's Boatmen's Association will be running trips throughout the day from St Mary's. Tresco Boat Services will be running from St Martin's and Tresco, while Seahorse will provide a late return to both St Mary's and Tresco at 9.30pm.
