Miracle Theatre returns to Scilly for its annual visit tonight with its latest production The Cherry Orchard.
The Cornish drama company will perform on Tresco this evening, followed by three dates on St Mary's.
The group says of its new production: "Chekhov’s bittersweet comedy is about a once-wealthy family whose idleness and extravagance have brought them to the brink of bankruptcy.
'Obstinate and self-absorbed, they are deaf to the rumbling of change which surrounds them, and unable to accept help when they need it. Will it take a revolution to destroy their cosy world of privilege and entitlement - or will their own stupidity be enough?
"Bill Scott’s new adaptation treads a tragicomic tightrope, bringing out all the humour and pathos of Chekhov’s masterpiece which, more than a century after it was written, is as popular as ever."
Miracle Theatre heads off on tour every summer, performing at various open-air venues across the South West and beyond. It has visited Scilly for around 25 years, most recently last year with The Third Policeman.
The Cherry Orchard kicks off at the Sea Garden Cottages Lawn at Old Grimsby on Tresco tonight (July 26th) from 6.30pm and at St Mary’s Chaplaincy Gardens on July 27th, 28th and 29th from 8pm. Tickets can be purchased from the Tourist Information Centre, at the venue and online at https://thelittleboxoffice.com/miracletheatre/book/event/79372 .
