Junior ÖTILLÖ will 'definitely' return
The J:ÖTILLÖ event will definitely be back next year, its organiser has said.
The inaugural junior version of the Swimrun was a big success, with around 200 children taking part.
It was held on Friday June 8th ahead of the main World Championships Qualifying and Sprint races at the weekend.
There were different options for different ages, with Pre-School and key stages 1, 2 and 3 all having their own courses tailored for their age and ability.
All Five Islands pupils either took part in J:ÖTILLÖ or watched, while there were also contingents from Mount's Bay Academy and the school's other Academy Trust partners.
Year 6 friends Hallie Shave, Blossom Wild, Amelie Lishman, Hafwen Kendrick and Olivia Green completed the race together. They described it as "really fun" and "amazing", adding that there was "a lot of teamwork going on". Asked if they would do the main adult event when they are old enough, most said, "definitely".
Organiser Wez Swain said: "It’s been absolutely brilliant. I didn’t know what to expect. As you can tell, I'm stumbling for words!
"Everyone’s crossing the line with amazing smiles on their faces having had a really, really good day. And it's not just kids from here and from the off-islands, visiting schools came from the mainland too and had an absolute ball. We've also had parents who are taking part in the main event over the weekend bring their young ones along and ask if they can get signed up. So it’s been brilliant, it's made all the work really worthwhile."
Of the possibility of doing it all again next year, he said: "Definitely! Did you not see the smiles on virtually every child’s face? Everyone finished with such great smiles, just loving it so much. This really is our chance to show off where we live, so let’s do it again."
