Isles of Scilly joins Refill campaign
The Isles of Scilly is now officially part of the national Refill campaign.
The Isles of Scilly Wildlife Trust has acquired the licence to create Refill Scilly and join the initiative, which aims to discourage the use of single-use plastic bottles by making refilling a water bottle as easy as possible.
Some 34 businesses on the islands have so far signed up to the scheme and will place a sticker in their window telling passers-by that they can fill up their reusable bottle for free. They will also appear in the Refill app, which shows all participating businesses.
The Wildlife Trust said: "It's been a while in the organising and here at the Isles of Scilly Wildlife Trust we've had to beg and borrow (not quite steal) to make it happen. But #RefillScilly is officially here!
"We now not only have the licence but we also have Refill Scilly branded stickers! Isles of Scilly Wildlife Trust Comms Officer, Nikki, will be attempting to visit all of the Scilly businesses currently signed up over the next week to ensure that you get them.
"We are so pleased with the number of businesses which have got behind this initiative and signed up."
Refill Scilly is facilitated and led by the Wildlife Trust as part of its Plastic Free Scilly project, funded by the Isles of Scilly AONB. It is part of the Refill campaign, a free tap water initiative designed to reduce plastic pollution and promote healthy hydration by "making refilling a water bottle easy, social and rewarding".
The Wildlife Trust added: "We would like to ask that if any of you are promoting #RefillScilly and selling products off the back of it (i.e. refillable drinks containers) or selling products and promoting Plastic Free Scilly (i.e. using the logo) that you would consider making a donation to the Isles of Scilly Wildlife Trust in order for us to be able to continue promoting, providing promotional materials to businesses and generally keep track of what is happening."
