The vessel has been out of action since a fire broke out in the engine room on Monday.

A spokesman for the Isles of Scilly Steamship Group said: “Our teams are continuing to carry out repairs to the Lyonesse Lady following the small fire on the 21st May, which caused minor damage to the engine room.

"This has unfortunately impacted on our usual freight operations, we are however making good progress in returning the vessel back to full service. In the meantime, we are grateful for the support of the island community, local businesses and island boat operators, especially The Pegasus, The Falcon, Scavenger and St Agnes Boating, for helping to ensure that freight is transported to the off-islands in a timely manner.

"Residents of the off-islands are receiving their chilled, frozen and perishable goods on schedule and heavier pallets including camping equipment and trailers are being carried.

"We will provide further updates when there is news but please contact Penzance freight office for all freight enquiries on 01736 334249."
