Robert Francis voted new Chair of Scilly's Council

Cllr Robert Francis has been elected Chairman of the Isles of Scilly Council for 2018.

He defeated previous Chair Cllr Ted Moulson by 8 votes to 3.

After being sworn in, Cllr Francis thanked Cllr Moulson for his work over the last year. He said: "We have an excellent team of Members and Officers and it's up to us to build on the first year and deliver on our aspirations for the forthcoming year. I will do my best to... justify the faith you have put in me."

He also thanked Clive Mumford, who was at the meeting, for 30 years' reporting on Council matters for The Cornishman.

Cllr Fran Grottick tied for Vice-Chair with Cllr Avril Mumford, with both receiving six votes. New Chair Cllr Francis used his vote to elect Cllr Grottick "in view of the sterling work she’s done for the Council in the last year".

Cllr Grottick said she will "continue to do [my] very best for you all and for the Council".

Cllr Joel Williams and Cllr Adrian Davis were re-elected as Lead Members for Children and Adults respectively. Cllr Dan Marcus will remain Lead Member for Planning and Cllr Grottick Lead Member for Finance.

Cllr Steve Sims was voted to be Lead Member for Place. A decision on the Lead Member for Smart Islands was deferred until after the Democratic Processes Panel meets.
