Art Scilly festival programme revealed

The full programme for this year's Art Scilly has been revealed.

The annual festival aims to highlight the diverse range of artists on the islands, with a variety of workshops, craft fairs and exhibitions.

Studios and galleries will also open across the islands during the event, which runs from May 12th to 19th.

Workshops include creative writing, painting, sketching, glass fusing, lino printing and fabric seascapes, plus lots more.

There will also be a local produce and craft market, beachcombing and rockpooling with the Isles of Scilly Wildlife Trust, and an opportunity to have a portrait painted.

The Islands' Partnership said of this year's event: "Whether you’re an absolute beginner or a seasoned artist looking to hone your skills in our beautiful natural environment, everyone can get involved and take home their own creations to cherish.

"Additionally, why not join our new feature for this year: the Isles of Scilly Paint the Day competition? It’s open to all and challenges budding amateurs and children, as well as the islands’ seasoned artists to capture the spirit of the islands in an original new artwork painted in just one day.

"Browse the full programme and if anything takes your fancy, simply book your workshops with the artists directly. All their details are included. The workshops have limited numbers (some just 3 or 4 people) so that you can enjoy intimate tuition and advice."

The One Act Play Festival, now in its seventh year, also returns on Sunday May 13th. Five one-act plays written by locals will be performed by St Mary’s Theatre Club as rehearsed readings, with minimal props and scenery. The event is adjudicated by writer and radio producer Paul Dodgson, with the winner chosen by the audience. It starts at 7pm at the Church Hall.
