New food delivery service starts on Scilly
A new food delivery service has started operating on St Mary's.
The business is run by Helena and Alex Plowman, along with Cameron Kirkpatrick, who runs Coastal View Kitchen in Old Town.
Helena told This is Scilly: "An island food delivery service is not a new concept. Back in 2013/14 when Alex ran Plowman’s Food Company Butchers and Bakery we started a very small scale ‘Welcome Box’ delivery service and online shop which was really popular.
"After the shop closed we always said we wanted to start the food box delivery service up again but as we didn’t have a premises to operate it from we were a bit stuck.
"Luckily Cam from Coastal View Kitchen was able to help us out with the operational side of things and our Scilly Food Boxes partnership was formed!"
Scilly Food Boxes, which started on April 25th, offers a total of 19 boxes, ranging from basic to BBQ to Cream Tea, as well as fruit and veg. The boxes can be ordered and paid for on the company's website, after which they are packed, delivered free of charge to the holiday accommodation address and put away in time for the visitors' arrival.
Helena added: "All of our produce is either sourced from around the Westcountry or from local suppliers on the islands. We are already working closely with a number of local businesses on Scilly to continue to expand the range of boxes and the products that we offer. However, we would love to hear from any local food producers across the islands who would like the opportunity to showcase their products."
Scilly Food Boxes is supporting the Isles of Scilly Wildlife Trust's 'Plastic Free Scilly' campaign by reducing the amount of single use plastics in its boxes as much as possible and only using 100% biodegradable. It also donates 5% of food box sales to local charities.
