Isles of Scilly to offer orthodontic treatment

The Isles of Scilly is to provide an orthodontic service from mid-May, Healthwatch has announced.

Brighter Dental have confirmed that an orthodontist will visit the islands every six to eight weeks.

Healthwatch wrote in its April newsletter: "This is especially helpful for youngsters needing braces etc., as families have recently found that the Patient Transport Policy does not cover primary care on the mainland, and Student Councillors told us that frequent mainland appointments were disruptive to their education and they would rather have treatment here.

"We discussed all this with NHS England and Brighter Dental and we are very pleased with the outcome."

In other Healthwatch news, manager Carol Clarke is to leave at the end of May after eight years.

She wrote: "I'm leaving an organisation I'm very proud to have been part of and which I know will continue to do great work - all the knowledge and experience built up in those years will stay, along with the rest of the team of staff and volunteer board members."
