Island Helicopters test flights start this week

Test helicopter flights will be taking place over the Isles of Scilly and the West Cornwall coast this week as Island Helicopters prepares to start scheduled operations next month.

The Isles of Scilly Steamship Group’s new helicopter service will be operated by Gloucester-based Specialist Aviation Services (SAS) using a new 10-seater AW169.

Test flights of the new aircraft by SAS teams will take place from April 17th – 19th, as well as training for ground staff at airports. Trial landings on Scilly are planned for April 18th.

Return flights from Land’s End Airport to the Isles of Scilly will start on May 21st.

Island Helicopters will offer a year-round service flying to Scilly up to eight times a day, six days a week. Fares start from £215 return and flights from Land’s End Airport to the Isles of Scilly will take approximately 20 minutes.

The Steamship Group announced its new helicopter service in February. Tickets are now on sale.
