The Isles of Scilly will host a new literature tour later this month.
Word on Tour is taking place from January to September and sees libraries in the South West welcome some of the region's finest novelists, nature writers, poets, playwrights, performers, children's authors and one musician.
The Isles of Scilly will play host to Dr Miriam Darlington, an author, journalist, and teacher of English and Creative Writing at Plymouth University. Dr Darlington is the author of Otter Country and new release Owl Sense, about the relationship between humans and owls.
She will be joined by Tim Dee, a BBC radio producer, poet and writer of books The Running Sky, a memoir of his life as a birdwatcher, and Four Fields, described in The Guardian as "an enthralling book about what humans have made of the natural world".
Scilly's librarian Linda Thomas told This is Scilly: “There’s an event coming up at the library which we’re very excited about. It’s called Word on Tour, a 26-date live literature tour in celebration of South West writing talent. It goes from Bristol right down to Scilly so it’s great that we’re included.
"Different libraries have different people doing their talks. We have two nature writers and they’re going to be in the library discussing their books, their writing lives, their love of the natural world, and answering questions from people that come in."
She added: "They’re well known authors in their field so it’s lovely that we’ve got somebody like that willing to come over and talk about their books. It's great to be able to support this event."
Word on Tour, which is funded by Arts Council England’s Strategic Touring Fund, aims to "attract those new to libraries and the wonderful resources they offer" and "to inspire future live literature events in your community in years to come".
Word on Tour takes place at the library on St Mary's on Wednesday, April 18th between 7pm and 9pm. Tickets are available for £5 from the library or online through Eventbrite.
