New Scilly barber shop holds open day

A brand new barber shop and treatment room held its open day on St Mary's this afternoon.

Rosanna Hogan, who also runs Cut Loose hair salon on The Strand, greeted guests at Unit 2 with Prosecco and cupcakes.

She told This is Scilly: "It's been brilliant. Lots of people have come in, which has been really nice. I'm running out of Prosecco!"

The barber side has an old-fashioned New York feel with brick-style wall and lots of dark wood, while the separate treatment room - equipped with massage chair - has a more modern, relaxing style.

Rosanna said of the look: "It's definitely what I envisaged. Luckily, I have brilliant people I work with and a very supportive family. My brother really saw my dream and the girls, Shelley and Gemma, have been great. It's just come together."

She also thanked husband Eugene for "putting up with me changing my mind over things!"

Meanwhile, colleague Gemma, described as "all about your feet and your toes", said of the treatment room (pictured below): "It's a really relaxing, calming environment, a great place where people can some and switch off and be pampered."

The new venture is named after its address at Unit 2 Gleaner House, which was previously leased by Scilly Now & Then magazine. It is located between Becky's Scilly Cakes and Healthwatch opposite the library on St Mary's.

Cut Loose will remain open as usual, while a fourth member of staff will join the team in the summer and other therapists and professionals are welcome to use the space.

Unit 2 is open for business on Monday. Barber shop clients can use the app Booksy to make appointments.
