In Pictures: Snow on Scilly

February is bowing out in style by delivering the Isles of Scilly's first heavy snowfall for years.

Residents have been excitedly sharing photos of the islands under a blanket of white. Here are just a few that have appeared on Facebook:

Snow on St Mary's:

Five Islands School closed at 2pm, while the Isles of Scilly Police urged islanders to stay indoors.

They posted on Facebook: "Given the weather conditions if you don’t need to go out then please don’t - especially those driving - There have already been some near misses. It is the driver’s responsibility to make sure it’s safe to drive whether that is in a commercial or private vehicle and it follows that if there is a collision or accident it’s down to the driver and not “because the roads aren’t gritted” or “it was icy”. Please be sensible and stay safe."
