Council "welcomes" ISSG helicopter news
The Council of the Isles of Scilly has said that it "welcomes" news that the Isles of Steamship Group and Specialist Aviation Services intend to operate helicopter flights from Land's End.

The Steamship Group announced today that it will begin a helicopter service in May.
The Council said in a statement: "As the operator of St Mary’s Airport, we were surprised to learn about the proposals and look forward to learning more about how the service will be implemented as soon as possible.
"A thriving island community requires a transport system that is reliable and integrated. Any increase in transport options is important because of the economic and social benefits it may bring to the islands.
"We know that there is community support for a return of helicopter travel in addition to the existing fixed wing and boat services that currently operate between Scilly and the mainland. We hope that Island Helicopters or any future entrants into the market can provide residents, businesses and visitors with the options they need."
The Authority recently reiterated its support for a new heliport in Penzance.
