Bryher fudge donated to Penzance homeless
Homeless people in Penzance were recently treated to fudge from the Isles of Scilly.
Kris Taylor, who makes Veronica Farm Fudge with her family on Bryher, had some bags left over after the Christmas Market on the island in December.
She told This is Scilly: "We heard that Merryn Smith wanted kitchen equipment, pots and pans etc for the Penzance Street Food Project as there was a feeding kitchen for the homeless by Penzance rail station.
"We had a Christmas Market on Bryher on December 10th in aid of Tresco and Bryher PTA, with a big lunch, stalls and entertainment. We had boats from other islands and I had a fudge stall with lots of flavours.
She added: "Homelessness is the most terrible situation. I have volunteered in a night shelter in Bristol which opens 24 hours a day for two weeks at Christmas. There are crisis centres in major cities over Britain doing this and providing medical care, food, clothing and entertainment. I provided Podiatry.
"When we were briefed at the start of a shift the co-ordinator told us that everyone is three steps away from being homeless. I think in Scilly we are isolated from these situations. It really shocked me and that is why I was happy to give the fudge."
The Street Food Project project provides hot food to people living on the streets in Penzance. The service runs six nights a week at the railway station and one night at a local church.
