Walk Scilly Festival extended to 11 days

April's Walk Scilly Festival has been extended to 11 days "by popular demand".

The event, which takes place over the Easter holidays between Wednesday April 4th and Saturday April 14th, includes 37 walks on various islands.

New walks this year include a "pacey circumnavigation" of St Mary’s, a spiritual sunrise walk with early morning meditation, a walk on St Agnes to "heighten the aural senses", and a star-gazing walk on St Martins.

There are also family-themed events due to the Easter timing, with the programme reading: "Children with their mums and dads will be able to celebrate the story of the Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch complete with mini-quests and a picnic, whilst Michael Morpurgo fans will be able to follow his footsteps across Bryher and families on St Mary’s will be able to turn bat detective for an evening."

There will be a sea safari on St Agnes, seaweed forage & tasters on Porthcressa, and a visit to the uninhabited island of Nornour with local archaeologist Dr Katharine Sawyer as part of a boat trip around the Eastern Isles with seabirder and photographer Joe Pender. There will also be opportunities to visit uninhabited islands Teän, Samson and St Helen's.

The evening programme includes a welcome party at the Mermaid, acoustic folk nights at the Bishop & Wolf, an evening at the Isles of Scilly Museum and a series of island presentations such as 'Scilly in the Great War'.

Tickets for Walk Scilly are on sale from Monday January 29th.
