Three local projects receive cash boost from ISSG
Three islands projects have started 2018 with a cash boost thanks to the Isles of Scilly Steamship Group’s Community Fund.
The company is giving away more than £3,500 to five worthy causes in West Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly in its latest round of funding.
The islands' projects being supported are Scilly Kids Triathlon, the Isles of Scilly U3A and a scheme to provide Wi-Fi at St Agnes Island Hall. Build a Bike in Redruth and Drama Express, which provides opportunities for young people with disabilities to access drama, have also received donations.
The latest funding comes as islander Sam Hicks from St Agnes is welcomed as the new Chairman of the Community Fund. He said: “We are delighted to celebrate the New Year by using the fund to support these projects.
“We are committed to making a real difference to our local communities and the Community Fund is a vital part of making that happen. I encourage all groups doing valuable voluntary work in Scilly and West Cornwall to consider applying for the next round of funding.”
Sam added that he is "delighted" to chair the Community Fund, which has up to £30,000 to give away this financial year.
Its funding grant categories in 2018 include an award of up to £10,000 for one lead project. The other categories are two projects up to £5,000, two projects up to £2,500, and four projects up to £1,250.
Bids to the Community Fund will open again on February 28th to voluntary groups or charities, schools and education establishments, community clubs or societies, and individuals undertaking not-for-profit projects for the benefit of the wider community.
