Gry Maritha crane out of use next week
The Isles of Scilly Steamship Company has announced that the Gry Maritha will be unable to carry heavy items next week due to an issue wth the crane.
In an email to customers, it revealed that a burst oil pipe on the ship has resulted in the crane being unusable.
The message read: "We will not be able to carry heavy deck freight and oversized items during the week commencing Monday, 27th November to Monday 4th December inclusive.
"Priority will be given to food and perishable goods and we ask that they be brought to the quay in a timely fashion for the scheduled sailings on Monday 27th November and Wednesday 29th November."
The Steamship Company also informed customers that the Gry will depart Penzance at12.30pm on December 1, an hour earlier than scheduled.
"This is to allow for goods to be unloaded in the evening at St Mary’s so the Gry can return to Penzance where she will enter dry dock for crane repairs. We request chilled and frozen items on this sailing be kept to a minimum due to the turnaround time and the storage available on St Marys Quay."
The vessel will be out of service on Monday, December 4th for maintenance.
The email added: "We would like to apologise for any inconvenience this may cause our customers and thank them for their co-operation. We hope to resume normal freight services as soon as possible and will issue further notices in due course.
"In the meantime, we recommend that freight customers call our offices as soon as possible to discuss their needs and to make a booking."
Anyone with enquiries is advised to contact St Mary’s Quay on 01720 424230 or Penzance Freight Office on 01736 334236.
