Bryher business wins 'Best Startup' award
Bryher firm Island Fish Ltd won 'Best Business Startup of 2015/16' at last night's Western Morning News Business awards.
The ceremony, held at St Mellion International Resort in Saltash, recognised 'the best in South West business'.
The newspaper says of the awards: "Every year we discover and celebrate new talent and share the success of established South West firms and business people."
Island Fish Ltd was shortlisted alongside Aquamarine Media from Exeter, Salcombe Distilling Co and TruVision VR from Plymouth.
Island Fish Ltd owners Mark and Amanda Pender posted on Twitter after the result: "We just won, still in shock! Best business start up 2015/2016, thank you @WMNNews so proud, well done family."
The judging panel, chaired by Western Morning News editor Bill Martin, also included Kim Conchie, chief executive of Cornwall Chamber of Commerce; Sarah Heald, director of corporate affairs and investor relations at awards sponsor Pennon Group; Julia Green, partner at Browne Jacobson Exeter; Hannah Finch, Western Morning News business editor and George Cowcher, chief executive of Devon Chamber of Commerce.
Mark Pender was also named ‘Shellfish Fisherman of the Year 2016’ in the annual Fishing News Awards in May, while Island Fish Ltd won a Silver Award in the 'Best New Business 2016' category at the Cornwall Business Awards.
