Scilly's emergency services 'totally inspiring'

St Mary's Lifeboat was yesterday called out to help a woman with a heart condition on board a boat moored in New Grimsby Sound.

The lifeboat had to make its way via the west of Samson and Bryher while the Star of Life ambulance boat headed up the Tresco Channel with a Paramedic on board. The coastguard helicopter R924 was also launched to assist.

The report by St Mary's RNLI read: "The Star of Life placed the Paramedic onboard to assess the female and shortly afterwards the lifeboat arrived alongside to assist. The casualty was placed in a stretcher and transferred to the lifeboat, where she was then airlifted off into R924 and taken to RCH Treliske for treatment."

Nearby Bryher Boatyard uploaded a video of the incident to its Facebook page, writing: "This is why we support the RNLI. You never know when you might need their service."

Bryher Campsite posted: "We have the most incredible emergency services here on the island - and supporting us from the mainland.

"This was all taking place just a few hundred yards from the campsite tonight and it was totally inspiring to see how smoothly everything worked. Thoughts with the casualty and their family."

The launch was the Lifeboat's 14th of the year so far.
